A Long, Hot Shower (of the Blood of Jesus)

(John 10:14: ) “I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me”

(Leviticus 17:11) “For the soul of the flesh is in the blood, and i myself have put it upon the altar for you to make atonement for your souls, because it is the blood that makes atonement by the soul in it.”

(Hebrews 9:22) “Yes nearly all things are cleansed with blood according to the law,and unless blood is poured out no forgiveness takes place.”

I have always loved a good, long, hot shower.  It warms, me it soothes me, it sometimes even takes a way the trouble of the day and relaxes me for a good, night’s sleep.

However, many of us often figuratively and literally use this type of shower to soothe our souls or to try to wash away the sin that we may have either committed in our hearts or in the physical with our bodies.

Some after a night of sexual sin try to get “clean” by taking a shower to wash the sin away; some use a shower to melt a day of trouble and tumult away;  for some it may be turning to a “warm” soothing alcoholic drink that warms as a shower would or a drug of choice that “seems” to warm the soul to “cure” what ails them.

None of these can or will ever soothe, warm your soul, or wash away that filthy “sinful” feeling as the warm, shower of Jesus’ blood will as you apply it to your life.

We can wash with hot water, the best soap, the new fangled cleaner, with the best or latest religious philosophy or whatever else the deceiver tries to put in our path to divert our attention from the only thing that will ever cleanse our souls but they all pale and fail in comparison with a relationship and a shower of Jesus’ love for us.

Maybe this is you today.  Maybe you young woman or man are trying to wash yourself clean from a night or lifetime of sin but still feel dirty.  Maybe it’s you husband or wife who’s been cheating either physically or mentally on your spouse.  Maybe it’s that person that person that is enduring physical and/or mental abuse today. Maybe it’s you dear child that has dishonored your parents with constant disobedience, lies, and disruptive behavior.

Whoever you are and whatever you’ve done realize that Jesus is waiting to clean you with the warm shower of blood that he bled for you at Calvary on a cross to atone for every sin that you would ever commit and to provide you a way to reconcile your unholy self with a Holy God being clean and spotless because of His sacrifice and undying love for you.

Take your sin, your troubles, your doubts, your unforgiveness, your each and every want, and need to His throne of forgiveness and be cleansed and made “white as snow” as you repent of all that you have done.

He can and will change your behavior, attitudes, cure your addictions, heal your pain, and show you how to live a “Christ-centered” life that He can then use to help others in the situation that they are in.  You will become as we Christians often say “blessed to be a blessing”.

To prove the point look at how He chose to use me, a once mere man walking this Earth with no purpose, no future, no hope, no life and a life full of turmoil who has taken many long, hot showers trying to wash the filth off of his life to use to speak His heart to you this beautiful day and to let you know that everything is going to be okay and that He is waiting for you to turn it all over to Him to be cleansed and made whole.

He is faithful and trustworthy to hear your cry for help as He knows the voice of His sheep and they know His.

He loves you today, forever and always so go ahead take a long, hot shower today in the love of Jesus and truly get “clean” today.
