And You Really Want The Federal Government To Administer Your Healthcare For You? REALLY?

Let me preface this article by saying that there are some fine, outstanding people who work for the Veteran’s Administration or VA that work hard and are hamstrung by the very laws that are purported to help them do their job.  Let me also say that there are many slackers that work for the VA and the same two principles are at play throughout the entire federal government.

Many of America’s own citizens do not understand how the government works and in my opinion that truth is one that has been insidiously intentional by the beaurocrats whose sole desire is to have our government become a centrally planned, authoritative, European style of government which they think is the answer to all of this country’s ills irregardless that history has proven time and time again with dire consequences that it never has and never will work.

Every thing that the government does has to be done by creating a law or more recently they just bypass the lawmaking and put out numerous regulations that are law like in nature but many of the people who are going to be affected by them have no idea that they’re even being created.

As you sleep, as you work, as you try to provide a life for your family the government is creating law after law, regulation after regulation to take more and more of your liberty away from you under the pretense of “the greater good” which to the liberal sounds very appealing yet they know not that when they vote for someone who supports this type of thinking that they are actually voting for their own enslavement to a federal master who once they have a power over a piece of your liberty rarely cedes it back to you.

This is why I cannot and will not support Obamacare.  I understand that something needs to be done to solve the healthcare crisis in this country but the people should never cede these decisions to the goliath that is our federal government because anyone that loves the freedom of making a decision on how their healthcare should be managed (this includes the liberal once they have to live under it) will quickly realize that they have erred in their thought process but the problem is as I’ve previously stated that once you have ceded that decision or piece of your liberty to the government you rarely will get it back.

For those of you who doubt me I present as my evidence the Veteran’s Administration (VA) system and how it operates to “serve” the men and women that serve this land by putting themselves in harm’s way knowing that they may become maimed, disfigured, or even become an ultimate sacrifice in support of an often ungrateful nation.

Almost every person reading that knows someone who has served in the armed forces and that receives treatment with the VA can attest that it is a very flawed and broken system that no matter how much money (your money) any administration throws at it seems to never get better yet this is exactly what our current President and anyone that supports “Obamacare” is designing for every American to live under.

Once “Obamacare” is fully implemented or becomes the single payer model that they always intended it to be it will very much resemble the VA system.  Now any of the politicians that read this that support Obamacare are going to theorize that it won’t but they can never give you evidence to support their claim where as I can and always provide evidence and mine has nothing to do with healthcare.

Let’s look at a few of the programs that the government runs shall we?  The postal service; almost any department of motor vehicles (state or federal), social security, medicare,  no child left behind, and the list goes on and on but the point is though some intend to do good things government because of it’s very structure rarely can do it right because eventually they run out of the source of their sustenance, other people’s money.

I digress.

The VA system is broke because the people who work in it are bound by the laws that direct the program.  What people need to understand about a government program is that there is no wiggle-room to mete out a problem, there is little if no recourse when you have a complaint, there are long waiting periods just to get a case heard and the same will be with Obamacare.

Any veteran that uses the VA system will tell you that it often takes weeks just to get something as simple as blood work done or you may have to drive hundreds of miles to the nearest facility to seek treatment for a minor issue because it is the law and you have to go to the regional center for most of your treatment.

When a claim is filed it takes months if not years before your paperwork is even seen by a beaurocrat and often it get’s “lost in the mail” even when you’ve taken the time and with cost to have your paperwork couried, signed for, and delivered straight to their door.

I know many veterans (like myself) that have at one time become so frustrated with the system that they stop using the system entirely even though they earned the right through blood, sweat, tears, loss of limbs, etc., to utilize it.

For instance, I filed a claim for a service-connected disability in August of 2010 and it took over a year to get it resolved.  Now I will tell you that I was not that upset about it because I know the system, I’m used to it, I have learned to be patient with it because of my military experience but it still was ridiculous for it to take that long for my claim to be dealt with.

In the meantime I was paying out-of-pocket to drive back and forth to the regional VA center at a time that my family and I were struggling financially and I often had to opt out of an appointment because it literally meant the difference between making the appointment or buying food or putting gas in the tank.

What was even more maddening is that once my claim was approved the people left my wife and children off of the claim though I have been married for almost twenty years and they are clearly listed in my military record so I had to re-file for them to be added.

Sounds like an easy enough fix, huh?  Nope, it never is with the government.  Instead of someone taking the time to relook at my paperwork to see the mistake or check my military records to see if the dependents that were clearly stated on the form were accurate they made me file a complete new claim thus wasting more of my time and government resources on a problem that could be easily fixed and off of the books.

Now I’m in my sixty-seventh day of waiting to have my claim updated (something that should take less than two minutes) and they haven’t even looked at it yet.  Also, there is now man-hours being wasted, trees being killed by paperwork that is being mailed back and forth as they tell me they need more of the information that I’ve already provided them, and this simple claim that should be an “easy fix” is now holding up someone else’s disability claim that needs the funds to get their medical supplies or treament.

Further, when one calls to complain we are most of the time greeted by the response that “there is nothing that we can do because it’s the law” and this holds true as they transfer you to a “complaint” department whose voice mailbox if often overfull which leads to the phone call being terminated which results in another call back which often is met with the same results.

Sadly, this is what is going on with many of the veteran’s that are seated to your left or your right and as usual they put on the brave face and bear the frustration like a “good soldier” while being screwed by the system that was supposed to be created to take care of them.

Now I know that some of you think that this must be an isolated case but there is a reason that so many jokes about government workers are abound and while as I said before there are many valuable, hard-working professionals who work for the government there are many that just collect a paycheck and cannot be fired because of tenure (sounds familiar to many of the teacher’s unions, right?).

Many of you have dealt with a government agency and though you have some good men and women trying to help you you’ve met with many of the same results that I’m speakin of because the problem is not just with the VA it’s systemic throughout the entire federal (and many state) government.

What’s even worse is that many people think that the government is the same all over the country but that is wholly unfactual.  Though they should, many governmental agencies don’t speak the same language and have extreme difficulty working with each other.  Something as simple as a transfer of an employee between government agencies is often a nightmare and trying to get information from a government institution that is created by your tax dollars is an undertaking not for the faint of heart.

The bottom line is that this is what every American is going to experience very soon if Obamacare is not repealed and my  “I told you so’s” to so many of my friends and colleagues that support this monstrosity will not be medicine enough to cure my ills because my freedom and liberty to choose will also be gone.

I will never stop being a voice for our liberty and freedom because having served I know the cost of them.  I have literally seen the country that some in our government want us to become as I served overseas and though many of you think you want it I’m telling you now that you, your children, and your grandchildren will rue that we have allowed our government to step so far outside of its Constitutional bounds.

We have a President who is ruling by fiat and ignoring every Constitutional barrier that was put into place to deter that kind of behavior.  Him being “frustrated” with Congress does not give him the authority to do what he is doing and even if you support him you must realize that he is wrong for if you grant him this power what happens when someone who has truly evil intentions is elected?  The mandate, just as President Bush prepared the way for what this President is doing, will have been granted and that my friends is how many of the greatest tyrants of our time and of history rose to power.
