My Thoughts On The (“So called) Boy Scouts Vs. The LBGT Community Issue

It’s quite amazing to me that many in the LBGT community are wholeheartedly fighting to make the Boys Scouts of America to accept homosexual scoutmasters without any reservation and referring to it as an “equal rights” issue.

If it is an “equal right” issue then they’re argument is moot because one would have to surmise that if it is appropriate for a person that is attracted to the gender of the child of the same-sex it should then be appropriate for heterosexual scoutmasters to “tent” or room with members of the opposite sex.

Example: A homosexual man “tenting” with a young boy is in all regards the same as a heterosexual man “tenting” with a young girl. We would wholly find a heterosexual man and young girl sharing the same tent as totally unacceptable even if the two are not attracted to each other so why would the same not apply to a person who is homosexual?

The argument that is bantied about is that we should somehow trust the homosexual more than the heterosexual in the exact same situation so how is this equal?

As one who works with homosexual youth I often teach them that they cannot have it both ways just as I as a heterosexual cannot have it both ways and if your desire is to be equal you then must see what in fact “equal” is before trying to force someone else to bend to your way of thinking.

In other words, if you have the right to freedom of expression to live your life as a homo-sexual person the those who disagree with that lifestyle have the same freedom of expression to voice their opinion if they disagree with it when you try to force it upon activities that their children are involved in.

Conversely, you also have the same reciprocal right to disagree with the heterosexual’s lifestyle but we all should be able to agree to disagree and move on like adults.

Thus it is not a “right or wrong” issue but a “belief” issue that is wholly protected under our religious freedom statutes that used to be guaranteed under our Constitution.

These same statutes also guarantees that I as a follower of Christ cannot force you into submitting to my religious beliefs under a government fiat but individual, states (10th amendment to the Constitution), private groups, private citizens, private corporations were fully protected under the Constitution (not so much as of now) to make their own rules regarding cases like this unless they infringed upon a persons civil rights.

To me this whole issue has been perverted by people who have an ulterior motive and the rest of the LBGT community should be up in arms at how they are being used to further someone else’s political agenda.

My friends in the LBGT community who just want to live their lives without all of the “hoopla” from the activists find themselves in the same boat that many in the “Christian” community find themselves in when all of the vitriol and hate is bantied about from both sides of this issue and that is disgusted with it.

As a follower of Jesus Christ I try in all things to follow Christ’s model and that is to love everyone while ensuring that I do not deny Him nor His teaching yet I don’t try to force anyone to believe as I believe because Jesus never forced me to believe.

No man or woman is perfect except for Jesus Christ and until we learn to love one another as He loves us we will continue to be pliable to the machinations of the men and women who are focused on forcing a political ideology instead of fighting for the principles of the Constitution of “these United States” which when written was a beacon for those oppressed by tyranny.

Further, as I continue to grow in the Lord I am more aware of how God used men inspired by His Spirit to craft that great document with the principles of liberty, freedom, and justice for all so it should be no surprise that it is constant under attack to be destroyed just as those who believe in and try to live according to God’s word are always under constant assault.

Finally, since people who have plain, common sense seem to be an endangered species I pray that every on either side of this issue just settle down and realize that we all need to regain sight of what is most important and that is what is best for the kids and not about which side is right or wrong because the “right and wrong” of this issue is dwarfed by the damage these issues are doing to relationships, friendships, families, and communities and it is all spawned by evil in people’s heart who are bent on destroying this country with divisive issues.
