It’s Not the “Church’s” Job To Raise Your Children In The Admonition Of The Lord…It’s Yours!

As a youth leader I am privileged to work with kids from every spectrum of our society and it has undoubtedly been the biggest honor that I feel that God has entrusted me with and therefore I undertake the task with much humbleness and fearfulness in the Lord knowing that it is only Jesus that can “change” these children while I am only a “willing vessel” or conduit that God uses to do it.

However, too many parents (including “church parents” or parents who regularly attend church) expect their children to become “Heavenly” or like little angels at church because they come and receive the word of the Lord at church or because they are mentored by the leaders that God has appointed over them when they often leave the church and go back home to environments that are “hellish” and where they are surrounded by everything that resembles hell.

Yes, children can be changed without parents but it makes the task much harder than it needs to be when those parents know enough about God to be able to make the decision to send them to church because they know that God can “change” their kids but are loath to make the very same decision in their own lives which can have the potential to exponentially “change” their lives and their families lives as well (I and my family are living proof of this…so are many others).

As parents we are the God-appointed leaders of our household yet too many men won’t lead their households by leading them in the admonition of the Lord and too many women make excuses because a man has let them down for whatever reason.

We as Christian parents must first be willing to affect “change” in our own lives if we expect to see “change” in our children and we cannot expect someone else (even youth leaders or pastors) to do for us what God has appointed us to do.

I encourage us all as parents to go to a quiet place today and pray to the Lord as to how we can make the necessary changes in our lives so that we can lead and teach our children “the way that they should go” as it says in the Holy texts.

If you are not going to church start going but ensure that it is a Bible-based church that preaches that Jesus is sovereign over our lives, repent of your un-God-like behavior, ask for forgiveness for not leading and teaching your family through the best example that you can at your current point of growth in Christ, and then praise Him for the work that He is about to do in you and your children’s lives and “He is faithful and just to do what you ask and more” if you’ll submit you family under His mighty hand.

Simply put if we want our children to behave like little angels then we as parents have to stop behaving like little devils to give our children the best chance for growing in the admonition of the Lord.

As we learn to speak life into our children we will start to nullify the death that is being spoken into them by our own unrestrained tongue as well as the words of death that are spoken into them daily by this often dark and evil world that we as parents often allow into our households because “everyone else is doing it” through television, social media, music, etc,.

Does this mean that if we as parents fail to do this that our children cannot find God?

Of course not! God can do anything and that includes saving His children from His children (who should be striving to become more spiritually mature) that are behaving worse than little children.

If this offends then take it up to the One who put the thoughts that you now see to this medium and ask yourself man/woman of God why it offends you and I’m sure that you will soon see (if you ask God to show you) that your offense is coming from a prideful place (again, the pot calling the kettle) and if it is more important for you to be offended by a message brought before you by a man of God whom God has walked through this himself or are your children “the most important thing in my life” as most parents often claim.

Your children should never be your number one priority, neither should your spouse, your work, or anything else…that position should be reserved for Jesus and Jesus alone because when Jesus is placed above all else then we as parents can then love and teach our children as led by Jesus’ Spirit, we as spouses can love each other as Christ loves the church, and by doing this we place our families under God’s mighty hand of protection and as we develop the ability to trust Him more and more we will begin to realize that it is truly not our family to begin with and that we are mere stewards helping to nurture these precious souls towards a deeper relationship with Him which should always be our goal.

Lastly, we should be modeling the behavior that we want these little “tape recorders” to have and the more like Jesus we are and the more Jesus-like the environment that we surround them with is the more like Jesus they will become and if nothing else we will plant seeds that will one day germinate inside of them that will by God’s great word bear good fruit.

Let’s start off today with a fresh beginning by praying honestly and without pride for Jesus to show us where we fall short as parents (and as husbands, wives, and yes…children…you bear responsibility also!) so that we may affect a “change” in us that will also affect a “change” in our children and our families as a whole.

The very fact that some are offended by this writing shows in their heart that God is already working to show them that what I’ve written is scriptural (research it yourself) but more importantly it is true because it was revealed by His Spirit to this Man of God because I was once (sometimes still am, LOL! But I pray it out) that “parent” that we are speaking of yet now as I submit more and more of my life to God and get rid of more and more of my pride thinking that “I can do it myself” the better husband I have become which in turn has made my wife a better wife, has made both of us better parents, and has affected “change” in our children.

He loves you today! He wants you to know that you are a product of you own choices yet you are not defined by them. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of the Lord and all these things will be given to you” (Matt 6:33) means that in anything we do if we seek God first that He will give us everything that our heart desires because our hearts will become more like His and we will desire what He desires and that includes the desire for us to be better parents by teaching our children to live in the admonition of the Lord.

To the ones that are trying to live this life…keep trusting God, keep growing, keep praying, and one day you will see your prayers and your faith bear fruit as God is a God that can be trusted in all things because of His great, unmitigated love for you.

Be blessed dear brothers and sisters and I leave you with a Holy kiss from a brother that loves you as Christ loves the church!

Scripture for this writing:

PROVERBS 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

EPHESIANS 6:4
And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
