We Are The Canvas…You Are Our Painter Dear Lord (A Psalm)

We are the canvas and you are the painter Dear Lord.

We pray that you paint the picture of our often dysfunctional lives the way you desire for them to look.

Men often praise men and put staggering prices on artwork that they deem priceless yet none can ever compare to your delicate detail as they have no access to the colors that only you and Heaven bear witness to.

They treasure the works of names like Picasso, Uccello, da Vinci, Cezanne, and Rembrandt van Rijn and hold their work in high regard as masterpieces which shows their lack of wisdom for they can only paint what you would have them paint and what they see is a mere glimpse of what you see.

I’m confused by this because I with the wisdom that I’ve gleaned so far while sitting in your presence have learned that these “pieces” can not be masterpieces if they are not done by the only true Master that is you and only you.

Can they recreate the sunrise in all of the glory that you made it?

Can they perfectly recreate a sunset in the entire Heavenly splendor that you made it?

Can they, these great painters, use one brush stroke to change the darkness of a man’s heart into light?

No…they are not capable of these things because they are not you so they can only mimic what they see that you have done or recreate what you have already made.

You use hues and differing shades to complete our past, our present, and our future yet you never err in a single stroke and your artwork is always perfect in every way.

You’ve shown us through the years of existence through the many other “life” paintings of your disciples, apostles, messengers, and most importantly in the perfect portrait of your beautiful Son Jesus Christ how great and unending your love is for us.

It is through this great love that we now have a family filled with believers who have taken on the same name born together by Spirit, bonded together by your awesome might, and cemented together with your perfect love.

So now I pray sweet Jesus that you teach us how to paint as you do, how to say what you say, how to live as you live, and how to love as you love.

It is with no regret that we follow you O’ Sovereign One and our reward which is the only reward that truly matters will be to someday on a day of your choosing walk hand in hand with you throughout eternity as you complete the greatest portrait of all time.

We love you today, forever, and always my Lord!

May your face shine on all of your people in all that we set our hands to do today and in these things may we be a living vessel that brings you the glory that you deserve.

May we realize that your countenance is not downcast at us for the mistakes that we made yesterday.

May we, your people realize that you have already paid the price for those mistakes and every one that we will ever make if we would only receive that price that was paid for by the blood that you bled on a hill named Calvary so long ago.

We thank you for this and all things, we praise you for it and all things, and we your family honor you today on this beautiful day that you have made.

By the hand of your faithful servant,

Ron “Big Black” Garrett
