“Thou hast also given me the shield of Thy salvation: and Thy right hand hath holden me up, and Thy gentleness hath made me great.” Psalm 18:35

The people, Christians, in our churches, are literally running folks off and acting like heathens. No wonder people don’t want to come to church. The number one reason that I have heard is bad behavior from other Christians.

And, if new people do happen show up and join, they are forgotten about quickly. The territorial lines have been drawn. The social club is well established. The cliques are impregnable. It would be like going fishing and saying, Man I really want to catch some fish. Then you catch a boatload of fish and just leave them in the boat to dry out and rot when you get home. Make sense?? If so, don’t even go fishing if your just going to waste them. Weren’t we all taught that as kids?

Do you know what our churches could use a little bit more of? Courtesy among the brethren—LOVE in the little things, LOVE that says “please” and “thank you,” LOVE that steps back, smiles genuinely and gives the other person first place. The graceful, loving gentleness of Jesus Christ.

It never ceases to amaze me how people so quickly lose their religion when they leave church on Sunday morning. You get hugs, handshakes and prayer until you get in between lunch and their car. They go to their cars in the parking lot, then try to run you over and cut people off in traffic and throwing hands and fingers. Are you one of these people?

And, if you want to really watch someone have a come-apart, take their “regular” seat in church. You’re seen as stealing their “rightful” place in the worship service!

The church needs people who are willing to be broken and filled with the Holy Spirit. That is when God can truly use you.

What if the admission price at the door of our churches on Sunday morning was Grace, Love and Mercy? Hmm, I wonder how many would get in? My guess is we would have even more empty pews….

May God break down, prune and cleanse our churches of self-righteousness and pride. May He purify us from anything that seeks to elevate self over others.

He that is first will be last!

The gate is a narrow one….

To the least of these…..
