Being In Debt Is Not How God Wants Us As Believer’s Nor This Nation To LIve

Proverbs 22:7
Just as the rich rule the poor, so the borrower is servant to the lender.

Proverbs 22:26, 27
Don’t agree to guarantee another person’s debt or put up security for someone else. If you can’t pay it, even your bed will be snatched from under you.

Romans 13:8
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.

I’m constantly amazed that seemingly intelligent people have not realized what raising the “debt limit” is.

It means that we are borrowing money that we don’t have and that we WILL have to pay back.

I’m glad that this short term issue besetting our government is temporarily absolved but the bigger problem remains that we cannot continue to raise the debt ceiling so that we can pay for things that we cannot afford.

What would any of you tell someone who is in huge debt but continues to go out and spend, get even more credit cards and go further into debt?

Would you tell them to not worry about it or would you tell them to cut up the credit cards, reign in your spending, only pay for what you need, and live more frugally?

Many of the people that I see on social media especially the ones that I personally know would never run their households like our government does yet they applaud as our politicians continue to borrow money that as our President but then Senator once said “we have to stop borrowing money that our children will have to pay back” and I totally agree with then Senator Obama.

Yes I know and I have repeatedly said on numerous occasions (though it is often ignored) that the previous administration overspent for their agenda and made silly decisions that help us get to where we are can we postulate to that?

However, do we continue to do the same now especially when we know that it’s bad for our country and future generations?

Again, we as households have to make hard, tough choices and for myself as a man that has led my family to reducing its household debt from with interest and liabilities from well over $70,000 to a current total debt (house not included) of around $11,000 in nine years I know that reducing spending, doing without a few things, buying second-hand instead of new, not purchasing new gadgets, eating out much less and sometimes not at all, paying off credit cards and not renewing them, practicing a biblical financial life instead of the credit-driven one that our society preaches, and not coveting what my “neighbor” has and focusing on what God has already provided me has me in a better financial position where I’m able to weather tough times so much easier and the debt-free lifestyle is just around the corner instead of being harangued by the debt lion that was so heavily devouring my family just a short, while ago.

In the beginning it was hard and there were things that we did not think that we could do without that we’ve since realized that we could and the peace that comes with lowering the debt burden off of our lives is not worthy to be traded for more debt and more stuff and this is my desire for our country.

Both parties, this administration as well as all of the administrations for the past 80 years or so are collectively responsible for fostering a “debt-reliant” mentality that our entire country now suffers from yet just as it was and is with our family it is never too late to repent of silly behavior and turn back to what works and that is to be fiscally responsible, make tough choices on how and what we spend our money on, purging the rolls of those that abuse the system of help that we have for the truly needy, and putting systems in place that will reward good choices as well as eliminate the bad ones that our government has or will make.

I pray that our President, our leaders, both parties, the media, and the individuals that support any of them will now take the time to stop, pray, and seek God for the answers that beset our nation instead of the constant bickering that I myself have even been a part of but that God has recently convicted me of which is why since the election last year I do my best to call out both sides as often as I can instead of utilizing partisan rhetoric as I have been guilty of in the past (gotta admit that I loved arguing but it settled nothing and God was not amused!)

I urge every brother and sister that claims Christ to search the scriptures on what the Bible says about debt which is why I feel so strongly about reducing it at all costs yet with as much compassion as can be mustered but it MUST BE DONE or this country will fall down that steep slope that so many that came before it fell down when going down the same road.

I pray healing and peace for our Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches and every person that works in them.

I pray that every leader both present and future that is voted in or appointed into office for this nation would bend his/her ear to God’s word for sound guidance that will undoubtedly bear fruit.

I pray that the discord and divisiveness that politicians on both sides of the aisle and their constituents in the society who root for them much like one roots for a team in a football contests realize that this behavior is not of God but is of our sworn enemy the devil whose sole mission is to “kill, steal, or destroy” us.

….and I pray that all of us in the faith no matter the political affiliation realize that there is only one, true government and that is the government that is run by the creator of the universe who took on flesh and died a horrible, gruesome death on a “tree” on a hill named Calvary so that we may be reconciled back into relationship with Father God.

Be blessed and have a Jesus-filled day and I leave you with what our President but then Senator Obama said in a speech before he voted to NOT raise the debt limit under the previous administration (and rightfully so and I wholly agreed and still agree with BTW) as proof that this is not a partisan issue but one that needs to be solved by all who realize that not dealing with our debt is a long, winding, road towards certain financial death for this nation.
