Thoughts from today’s Bible reading

From my Bible reading today (God is the One who instituted marriage not man so man can never “define” it…Only God can (same goes for abortion!)!

Malachi 2 (MSG): 13-15 And here’s a second offense: You fill the place of worship with your whining and sniveling because you don’t get what you want from God. Do you know why? Simple. Because God was there as a witness when you spoke your marriage vows to your young bride, and now you’ve broken those vows, broken the faith-bond with your vowed companion, your covenant wife. God, not you, made marriage. His Spirit inhabits even the smallest details of marriage. And what does he want from marriage? Children of God, that’s what. So guard the spirit of marriage within you. Don’t cheat on your spouse.

16 “I hate divorce,” says the God of Israel. God-of-the-Angel-Armies says, “I hate the violent dismembering of the ‘one flesh’ of marriage.” So watch yourselves. Don’t let your guard down. Don’t cheat.

17 You make God tired with all your talk. “How do we tire him out?” you ask. By saying, “God loves sinners and sin alike. God loves all.” And also by saying, “Judgment? God’s too nice to judge.”

I’m amazed at how so many in the “Church” can support things that are anti-thetical to the teachings found in the Bible. I hear the excuses “well the “blood” covers all” or “when Jesus died for us it took away all sin from everyone in the world” when the Bible says no such thing. We need Jesus because of our sin because it is only through Him that we can be cleansed and forgiven of them.

The “Church” often fails many people in the area of true forgiveness but that is no excuse for people to abuse what Jesus did on the cross by pretending that He still is not offended at sin.

I have no pretense and I know who I was (before Christ), who I am (still growing), and who I can be without Jesus and this keeps me grounded and able to love others just as He loves me without making an excuse for their sinful behavior. Whenever Jesus Would counsel or heal someone He would often tell them to “go and sin no more” yet many of today’s Christians act as if His blood gives them a right to sin without repentance or forgiveness which is an lie that the enemy has proliferated.

Another lie is that the New Testament trumps the Old Testament and this lie has been craftily woven into today’s Church through perversion of God’s word through men (and women) who preach the Gospel when a simple peruse of the Bible (in the New Testament no less!) should happen the seeking Disciple of Christ to stumble upon Christ’s words in Matthew 5: 17-20 that read:

17 Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets: I came not to destroy, but to fulfill.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

20 For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no wise enter into the kingdom of heaven.

This means that God meant what He said in the Old Testament, when He was angry about something He was angry then and still gets angry about it, when He said that He would punish un-repentant sin He’s still going to punish un-repentant sin…yet He gave us Jesus as a way to reconcile with Him and embody the whole law in a perfect way as well as His ability to overcome our sin and sin nature by allowing Him to grow inside of our hearts as more of Him increases in our spirit and our old ways, old habits, and sin nature dies to Christ.

This doesn’t mean that we won’t struggle or do things that we shouldn’t do from time to time because we have still not reached perfection as long as we are here on alien Earth. This doesn’t mean that we treat one sin greater than the other and this definitely doesn’t mean that we don’t ask God to teach us to love people who are blinded by sin just as He forgave and loved us when He found us and delivered us from ours (hate the sin love the sinner!).

What it means is that through Jesus we have already won the war and have an advocate that stands before the Father destroying the devil every time he accuses us before God and that as we learn to grow in love with Jesus we will begin to choose Him over those sins that beset us as we lay them down at His feet and allow Him to change our hearts to be more like His so that we can go out and spread the gospel and make disciples thus bringing glory to His magnificent and Holy Name.
