Your “Allegiance” Should Be To Christ…Not Your “Race”

I am proud of the cultural heritage that I have as a black man growing up in this country and they are an integral part of who I am in Christ so I am proud to be a “Big, Black, Man” I gave up my “blackness” (not being “black”) which is that deal where I identify and side with my race on any issue no matter the facts or truths when I gave my life to Christ as it was one of the first things that He dealt with me on.

Somewhere along the line we Christians seem to forget that when we “give” our lives to “Christ” we also “give” up our allegiance to ALL things that are of this world.

Our allegiance as a believer should first and foremost be to Christ Jesus, however, many people no matter the race seem to think (and by the way they live/talk) that having a black, white, or “other” (race) mindset is okay and is within the teachings of Christ when that way of thinking is not only NOT of God but is in fact UN-Godly in it’s very nature.

The scripture below is the defining point that I make that proves what we’ve discussed here:

Galatians 3:28 (MSG): In Christ’s Family

28-29 In Christ’s family there can be no division into Jew and non-Jew, slave and free, male and female. Among us you are all equal. That is, we are all in a common relationship with Jesus Christ. Also, since you are Christ’s family, then you are Abraham’s famous “descendant,” heirs according to the covenant promises.

So we see…Jesus instructs us through our brother the Apostle Paul how He desires His followers/disciples to react and behave when faced with any issue to include racial issues and that is to BE brothers and sisters in one bond with each other, helping each other, protecting each other, and looking out for one another as brothers and sisters in the “natural” normally do.

When we “give” our lives to Christ we “give” up our allegiance to the black race, white race, or whatever “other” race because from the point of our salvation our  sole allegiance now belongs to the “Christian” race and those cultural/race and community-based things that we’ve learned that used to guide our decisions, opinions, and/or words are no longer valid in any argument as we now should always filter any/everything that we say and do through God’s word.

When our actions are filtered through God’s word then we plainly see that there is no other “race” for us believers than what God has ordained through Jesus and to try to walk the fence to continue being “black”, “white”, or “other” in all things shows that the person exhibiting this behavior is still more aligned with this world in that area than with Christ and is more concerned about what his/her’s “race” will say about something than what Christ will say on it and are therefore in disobedience to Him and His word (and God values our “obedience” to Him far more than “tithes and offerings”).

Lastly, Jesus Himself taught us to “love one another as we love ourselves”…question is…how can we be obedient to this important teaching if in our heart we have ANY disdain or un-forgiveness towards others (especially our  “brothers” and “Sisters”) of another race?

Far too many “Christians” claim Christ yet whenever a racial issue “jumps off” they immediately do what they have been taught by this world and “side up” with their “own kind” when in reality they are supposed to “side up” with Jesus, what His words says, and be led by the Holy Spirit which will ultimately bring His perfect peace instead of the confusion and chaos that often reigns when racial issues persist (how things work when “man” works an issue instead of bring God into it)

Therefore we are not black, white, or “other” if we call ourselves Christians and that’s it…period…and we MUST start acting as such so that “they will know that we are Christians by our love for one another just as God told us to do.
