What is keeping you from loving and surrendering to God like He loves us?

My son loved playing Minecraft on his Kindle. So much that it began to take precedence over everything else. He would wake up and reach for it first thing in the morning. Eventually this became a pattern and his emotions were born from this game. He would get so mad when things didn’t go his way in the game, and he started lashing out on us, and got into trouble a lot.

One day he asked me “mommy why am I getting into trouble all of the time now?” I replied “because your priorities are out of order.” I asked him “what would happen to our bodies if we only fed it junk food?” He said “we would get sick, and things would hurt” I nodded and explained that this is true spiritually as well. “If you don’t feed your soul with God things, worship, word and prayer, you will have chaos in your life. Put good in, get good out!”

We are all guilty of this. How much of a difference would you see in life if the first thing you reached for in the morning was God? If our emotions are born from what we fill our lives with, why not choose Him first and always? The next time you ask “what is going on with life right now?” Check what you are putting first!

Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:2-5)
