From My Bible Reading Today: The Old Testament Is Still A Relevant Barometer For New Testament Folks

The Old Testament is meant to be a record of God’s relationship with Israel yet for any “Christian” to believe that it isn’t relevant to their faith which is based on the Jewish faith that they have been grafted into via Jesus is foolish.

Even Jesus used Mosaic examples/words and other Old Testament stories/examples to either proof Himself as the Messiah or to show the people the error of their ways.

Yes, we as Christians have a new covenant with Jesus but was it not Jesus Himself who said in Matthew 5:18: “Don’t suppose for a minute that I have come to demolish the Scriptures—either God’s Law or the Prophets. I’m not here to demolish but to complete. I am going to put it all together, pull it all together in a vast panorama. God’s Law is more real and lasting than the stars in the sky and the ground at your feet. Long after stars burn out and earth wears out, God’s Law will be alive and working.” (End of scripture). So we can see here that God has not abandoned what He said in the Old Testament…Jesus fulfilled it which means that He meant what He said and though a person receives salvation and forgiveness of sins through Christ Jesus God has not changed His mind about what HE has called sin.

To say that the Old Testament is irrelevant would be akin to saying that world history is irrelevant to Americans in the United States once our country was established and founded…it’s always Import to know your history (though God has shown me that some take knowing history and other “knowledge ” too far and actually make “knowledge” and the having of it “god” in itself as they forget who is the purveyor of all know leg in the first place).

As I read from my Bible yesterday God impressed upon me that the things that Israel was doing in the Holy scriptures found in the Old Testament (That many “Christians” claim are irrelevant) that made Him “white hot with anger” STILL makes Him “white hot with anger” when we…His “children” replicate those evils today.

He further walked me through how the enemy has used every means available to misinform and distract people from the truth from the media, false prophets, our “leaders” in government, our governmental educational system, and sadly many “preachers” or religious leaders within the “Body” who operate from an agenda-based worldly vision of what Jesus SHOULD be instead of WHO Jesus literally is through relationship with Him.

So as God mentored me through these scriptures He reminded me that His is angry about the state of the world, He is angry about the sin in it, He is angry at how His children both in and outside of the womb are being killed/persecuted, and that He is angry that so many within the church seem so eager to follow this world, IT’S leaders, IT’S prophets that preach in His Name but that do not know Him thus confusing many, IT’S celebrities whom they worship to incessantly as if they were greater than the God who created them and gave them the talents that so many of His people admire, and IT’S governments who many have come to worship as their personal savior as they depend on it as their “lifeline” for justice and truth when the one who allows said government to operate under His authority is a simple prayer away.

The only thing that is different between us and Old Testament Israel since Hebrews 13:8 reminds us that “Jesus Christ (who is God is He not? My words) is the same yesterday, today, and forever” is that we now have Jesus standing in the gap/intercessing for us with God and it is ONLY because Jesus stands in that gap defending us before God that we have not felt His complete and perfect wrath for the evil that we commit on a minute-by-minute, hourly, and daily basis.

If it were not for His death on the Cross we too would be “destined for destruction” with no chance for redemptive salvation like Old Testament Israel…BUT GOD shows us unmerited grace and mercy through Christ Jesus yet we still continually abandon him for all of the “gods” that I spoke of in the paragraphs prior to this one.

God has NOT changed and if we don’t review Biblical history to see why God was angry at His people then “we …His people” can rest assure that we are dooming ourselves for our own destruction…and an eternal one in hell at that.

So, from my Bible reading in Jeremiah:

Jeremiah‬ ‭7:8-15‬ ‭(MSG‬‬): “Get smart! Your leaders are handing you a pack of lies, and you’re swallowing them! Use your heads! Do you think you can rob and murder, have sex with the neighborhood wives, tell lies nonstop, worship the local gods, and buy every novel religious commodity on the market—and then march into this Temple, set apart for my worship, and say, “We’re safe!” thinking that the place itself gives you a license to go on with all this outrageous sacrilege? A cave full of criminals! Do you think you can turn this Temple, set apart for my worship, into something like that? Well, think again. I’ve got eyes in my head. I can see what’s going on.’” GOD ’s Decree!

“‘Take a trip down to the place that was once in Shiloh, where I met my people in the early days. Take a look at those ruins, what I did to it because of the evil ways of my people Israel. “‘So now, because of the way you have lived and failed to listen, even though time and again I took you aside and talked seriously with you, and because you refused to change when I called you to repent, I’m going to do to this Temple, set aside for my worship, this place you think is going to keep you safe no matter what, this place I gave as a gift to your ancestors and you, the same as I did to Shiloh. And as for you, I’m going to get rid of you, the same as I got rid of those old relatives of yours around Shiloh, your fellow Israelites in that former kingdom to the north.’” (Scripture ends)

So go ahead…ignore “true history” if you desire but to deny the lessons offer brothers and sister in Israel’s continual disobedience to God and the consequences that they bore because of those disobediences would be foolish as God intends for us all to learn from those mistakes so that we don’t repeat them and I SMH (shake my head) at the seemingly spirit-filled person (who cannot via the Holy Spirit) see that.
